Where were you?

I was at home in Michigan. My college was starting in a couple of days, and I was enjoying a last day to sleep in. I got a call from my cousin Becky asking kinda panicky where my dad was.

My dad traveled quite a bit for his job, and although he was traveling, my fuzzy brain couldn't remember if he was driving or flying for that trip. And I couldn't figure out why she needed to know. He traveled all the time and I never got a phone call about it.

She told me to turn on the TV because one of the twin towers had been hit by an airplane. Ok, maybe I was dumb, but I had no idea what a twin tower even was. So I turned on the TV...at this point I can't remember if I actually SAW the second plan hit the second tower, or if it had just happened and they were re-playing it. It all happened so fast. I know I was watching when the news broke that the Pentagon had been hit.

I just kinda sat on the couch wrapped in a blanket...really confused...and really scared. I was so relieved when my dad called later that day to say that he was alright...but he had been about 30 minutes from the field where the plane crashed in Pennsylvania. He had driven that day.

Where were you on September 11?

Dan was in his last year at seminary. We had just celebrated our 2nd anniversary. I worked at a daycare, and drove kids to school then would go home for a break. When I went home I turned on the Today show like I usually did, then sat in horror watching everything unfold. I watched as the first tower collapsed. Work that day was hard, we couldn't say anything to the kids, yet one of the kindergarteners I was with had a flight-attendant mother. In the air. Nerve wracking, but she turned out to be ok. It is a day I will never forget.

I'll never forget that day...it still makes me feel sick just to think about it. It was supposed to be my day off but I was called into work at 7am. We were listening to the radio and heard reports of an airplane hitting the WTC. I went home about 9am, hearing about the 2nd plane on my drive home. I sobbed uncontrollably for the rest of the drive. What was happening to our country? My husband and I sat glued to the TV for the rest of the morning.

I blogged about the same thing today.

So glad your dad was okay...I'm sure that was so scary until you heard from him.

I was in my Sr. Year of college, and heading back to campus from a special chapel that I'd participated in. I was leaving the building and a facilty member stopped me to tell me about the attack. And I am just like you, Jenney - I had no idea what the the WTC was. It sound official, but I wasn't too concerned, until I got into my car to drive back to campus and heard no music, but CNN radio being broadcast on my usual music station. I got concerned and headed right to the TV in the Student union where I stood with my roommate and few other close friends (and MANY more students) as we watched the second plane hit the second tower. I remember the horror. And I remember just sobbing because I knew we'd go to war. Ken called shortly after that and we decided that we would marry that year. The world was too crazy to wait any longer!!

I had just moved to Puerto Rico a few weeks prior. It was my first year teaching, I was at a private school. We were at breakfast and I happened to pop in the office as parents were calling to report it. As soon as we returned to our class I turned on the radio. I wasn't able to call home for a few hours. It wasn't until after school that I saw the images on the t.v. I missed home, I was never prouder to be an American. My heart ached over the coming weeks as the stories unfolded. It wasn't until I flew home in December that I got to witness the impact it had on our country, in the airports, the support of stickers on cars, flags waving. We didn't get that as much in PR. It was a mixed bag.

I was a senior in my high school gym class. Heard rumors of a plane crash on my way to class but then we got to class and my teacher had the radio on...it was true. Then while we were listening the second plane crashed. I will never EVER forget this day.

I was in college at a camp in OH attending RA training for Cedarville. The only news we had was hourly updates from the dean of students as to what was going on. One of the RA's who was there had a dad who worked in the Pentagon (he helped get many people out of the reckage) and my dad also worked in DC so I was nervous about that and was unable to talk to my family until 7pm that night. We RA's didn't get to see any footage of what happend untill we went to dinner that night and ate our meals the resturant from plates on our laps crowded around a 19inch TV they found for us.
