County Parks and Rec

For the past 3 years I have been a volunteer for our parks and rec. It is a lot of fun and a lot of work. We have a big event each year called the Doggie Dash N Splash. We had a meeting tonight and I am so excited for this year's event. We meet January through September each year getting ready. The first year Snug was only a couple of weeks old and attended for a few minutes via car seat. The second year he couldn't walk yet but attended in a baby backpack thanks to daddy. Last year he was running around with the dogs and new baby brother was in the stroller. They never come long, but my boys love to watch all the dogs.
What on earth is a Dash N Splash? Well, we open up the county pool a week after it closes to dogs! It is a hoot. The baby pool is the main attraction since it is only a few inches deep, but man when those labs and retrievers hit the main pool there is some major activity. We have contests in and out of the pool. Think Canine King and Queen contest complete with pre-online voting, swimsuit competitions (for dogs), dog-owner look-alike contest, etc. We also have over 70 vendors there promoting their wares and demonstrations from professional dog groups. Last year we had over 10,000 people and 5,000 dogs.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I am excited! This year there is a tiny glitch in that the county pools will not be opening this season to save money...but don't you worry canine crazies, this year's even will go on, and it will be better than ever!
